Each
year, in commemoration of the Ballantine's Championship,
Ballantine's produces an exclusive and priceless Ballantine's
Championship Blend whisky.
The Ballantine's Championship Blend tradition began in 2008, when
Master Blender Sandy Hyslop used his expertise to create just eight
bottles of an extremely rare 40 year old blend.
The 2009 Championship Blend represented the first time in history
that anyone outside the company's expert team had collaborated with
a Master Blender. The 2008 Ballantine's Championship winner, Graeme
McDowell, was invited to participate in the blending process by
selecting his favourite whiskies which were then used to create the
35 year old 2009 Championship Blend.
2010 marked 50 years since the first Ballantine's Golf tournament,
played at the prestigious Wentworth Golf Club in 1960. The occasion
was marked by producing a 36 year old Championship Blend which
included whiskies created at the time of this ground-breaking
event.
The Ballantine's Championship winner was again invited to
collaborate when Australian professional golfer and 2010 winner
Marcus Fraser met with Ballantine's Master Blender Sandy Hyslop to
create the 2011 Championship Blend. An exceptionally limited
edition, the 2011 Ballantine's Championship Blend contained
precious whiskies aged for at least 38 years and was so rare, only
10 bottles were produced.
2012 Championship Blend
Continuing the unique tradition, the 2012 Championship Blend was
created in collaboration with 2011 Ballantine's Championship
winner, Lee Westwood. The superlative blend contains a
selection of the rarest whiskies, aged for at least 41 years.
Only ten individually numbered bottles of the blend were produced,
marking the first time Ballantine's has created a whisky as old and
exclusive.
