Ernie Els tees off at The Ballantine's Championship 2009

It was typical of Ernie Els, that after two years without a tournament victory he should return to winning ways with a bang.

ls has moved back into the world's top 10 with an outstanding four-shot victory at the WGC CA Championship in Miami, one of the most illustrious events of the year in the United States. And now Els has finally broken his drought, few would back against him lifting more cherished silverware at the Ballantine's Championship next month.

"I'll have a bit more confidence now, I'm sure," said Els after he shot 66 on the final Sunday to hold off his fellow South African Charl Schwartzel.

"This took so much work. A lot of people have said that the older you get, the tougher it becomes to win, and that's very true. I'm 40 years old and now that you're older, you don't get as many chances. So I feel honoured just to be back in that group of players who are really performing well."

Graeme McDowell, who won the Ballantine's Championship in 2008, matched Els's 66 on Sunday to finish in a tie for sixth place.

"I never thought for one second I could get into the hunt, but this is a great boost for me," said McDowell.

Another big climber on Sunday was Korea's YE Yang, who shot a flawless 65 - including a back nine of 31 - to finish inside the top 30.

Yang can count on considerable home support in Jeju when he attempts to add Korea's biggest tournament to the PGA Championship he won in such sensational fashion last August.
