09 November 2009Y.E. Yang poised for Ballantine’s Championship homecoming
27 October 2009The galleries hoping for a home winner at this year's Ballantine's Championship will have been cheered by a wonderful performance by YE Yang in China yesterday.By winning the Volvo China Open by two shots, the Korean showed he is in prime form ahead of this week's tournament at Jeju island.
Yang shot three successive rounds of 68 to lead the tournament going into Sunday's final round. And just as he did when defeating Tiger Woods to win the US PGA last August, Yang held his nerve on the final day to collect his 10th title.
A glance at the top 10 shows Yang will not have things all his own way this week however. Asian No.1 Thongchai Jaidee, 2008 champion Graeme McDowell and European Ryder Cup star Henrik Stenson all finished tied for eighth.
Anthony Kim will also be a force to be reckoned with at Pinx GC. The American star, who is of Korean heritage, recently finished third at The Masters with a stunning final round 65 that equalled the lowest round of the week. And after a well-deserved break this week, Kim will be looking to continue that form in Korea where he is seeking his second title in three starts following victory at the Shell Houston Open.
